And it’s the game’s excellent character design that’s continued to provide SuperCreative/ Smilegate with the funding it needs to stay afloat (supplied with salt by gacha players across the globe). So when all is said and done, who are the best waifus in E7? We’re here to hopefully answer that question with this ranking of fan-favorite characters that stole our hearts. Note: we won’t be covering collaboration units for this ranking, and instead we’ll be focusing on characters designed for only Epic Seven.
20. Peira
Class: Thief Element: Ice Rarity: 5* Here’s one of the newest units to join the E7 roster, but one who’s already making a name for herself in the RTA meta. Peira is the first animal-human hybrid character we’ve received since Armin. And we hope many more cat/wolf/kitsune girls are on their way in the future. We don’t talk about Surins…
19. Cermia
Cermia Class: Warrior Element: Fire Rarity: 5* Lionheart Cermia Class: Warrior Element: Fire Rarity: 5* Cermia is the literal incarnation of all of us gacha gamers… Riddled with a gambling addiction that we just can’t quit! Cermia’s design was changed initially, because her default face had a similar appearance to Ravi’s. We’re glad that happened. Because now Cermia’s design really feels like it’s her own identity. Lionheart Cermia is also popping up more and more in RTA, and we’re glad to see cleave being back on the menu. Although in our humble opinion, it should have been Chaos Sect Cermia to receive the ML version…
18. Senya
Class: Warrior Element: Earth Rarity: 5* Senya is an incredibly niche unit. Her monstrous attack sees her pair well with Lilias on a cleave team. And while her buffs are nice, they’re nothing more than fuel for the enemy Rimuru’s fire. Still, with a design as high-quality as Senya’s, who needs a meta?! Senya (along with characters like Ilynav) are able to coast through on their looks alone. And frankly, we’re not complaining in the slightest.
17. Solitaria of the Snow
Class: Mage Element: Light Rarity: 5* Solitaria is such a refreshing character, and a large contrast from her RGB counterpart Eda. Thanks to her recent buffs, Solitaria looks to be in a fairly good spot with regards to RTA. Her great design just pops with flavor & color – and we are very much here for it!
16. Luluca / Top Model Luluca
Luluca Class: Mage Element: Ice Rarity: 5* Top Model Luluca Class: Mage Element: Dark Rarity: 5* If ever there were a waifu E7 players wouldn’t mind being in a thruple with, it would have to be Luluca. The Luluca and Violet ship (and subsequent Tomoca and Riolet ship) is one of the most powerful fan pairings in the E7 fandom. While Tomoca is on the decline as far as usage, and Bluluca usage is basically dead and buried… nothing will stop the shippers from keeping her relevant.
15. Fallen Cecilia
Class: Knight Element: Dark Rarity: 5* Ooh, Lordy, that RTA skin… Regular Cecilia has never really been a contender in any waifu war. Her succubus skin is nice, but nothing all that special. Additionally, FCC was moreso summoned for her incredibly powerful kit as opposed to her character design. All that changed when the RTA skin nation attacked! FCC’s RTA skin completely revamps the original’s design, and elevates the character to new heights.
14. Belian
Class: Knight Element: Light Rarity: 5* This was a tough one. We resigned ourselves to only placing one sitting waifu on this list, and it came down to Belian or Conqueror Lilias. Both of these units are incredibly powerful, incredibly meta, and incredibly waifu. And after much deliberation, we decided to hand the crown to Belian. Not only does Belian play a vital role in the E7 story, but her gear requirements are much lower than that of Cilias. Still, both of these waifus are fantastic – and we won’t judge you for siding with either one.
13. Lidica / Faithless Lidica
Lidica Class: Ranger Element: Fire Rarity: 5* Faithless Lidica Class: Ranger Element: Light Rarity: 5* Lidica was one of the first units to receive outcry for a banner back in E7’s infancy. She was a prolific character in the story, and fans were waiting eagerly for her release. She’s great for certain abyss stages where pushing back slower units (like Dark Corvus) is necessary. While Flidica, on the other hand, is a decent opener in RTA and Guild War. Furthermore, Lidica’s skin slaps a bridal gown on her! How much more “wife-u” can you get?
12. Celine / Spirit Eye Celine
Celine Class: Thief Element: Earth Rarity: 5* Spirit Eye Celine Class: Thief Element: Light Rarity: 5* Karin was always a great character that won the hearts of E7 players across the globe. Summoning Blood Blade Karin back in the day was your account’s death sentence, as most players would pour every resource they had into maximizing such an edgy waifu. Yet nothing could prepare us for Karin’s aunt. Celine’s adorable doziness is juxtaposed with her lightning-fast kit. She may not have the quickest base speed – but her skill two is incredibly strong. Not to mention that Spirit Eye Celine has one of the most gorgeous skill three animations in the entire game.
11. Elena
Class: Soul Weaver Element: Ice Rarity: 5* I can already hear the pitchforks coming for this controversial placement… Despite Elena still being a very good pick into certain matchups that seek to deal heavy AOE damage (Pavel) or push the team with an AOE attack (Faithless Lidica), players still can’t get past the rather odd-sounding voice acting that comes from Elena whenever she speaks. All in all, Elena’s design and personality don’t make her all that likable. However, all of this changes when you slap on that glorious Starlit Melody skin. Skins often elevate lesser-fawned over characters to an entirely new level. So expect some unexpected waifus to make this list (primarily) because of their amazing skins.
10. Vivian
Class: Mage Element: Earth Rarity: 5* Speaking of epic skins… Vivian has never really found much of a role in Epic Seven. She’s mainly relegated to Banshee one-shot teams alongside other niche units like Shadow Rose and Leo. However, none of us thought Smilegate would produce such an amazing skin like Villainess Vivian. Fans were frothing at the mouth when that skin was announced. Many thought the design had to be either a new limited unit or an ML counterpart, as the design seemed to be too good for just a normal skin. Alas, after the skin was revealed, people were disappointed – since a new skin isn’t enough to lift Vivian from the subs bench. Luckily she’s gained a new role as a permanent rep hero for waifu lovers across the globe.
9. Iseria / Summertime Iseria / Briar Witch Iseria
Iseria Class: Ranger Element: Earth Rarity: 5* Summertime Iseria Class: Ranger Element: Fire Rarity: 5* Briar Witch Iseria Class: Ranger Element: Dark Rarity: 5* Now we’re really getting into dangerous territory. Everyone’s favorite elf had to make this list at some point. But it just goes to show the strength of E7 waifus that she barely cracked the top ten. Nevertheless, every incarnation of Iseria has seen use in the game. Her Earth form was the second half of the once deadly Tama-Iseria combination. Her ML form is also a good stripper and damage dealer. Summertime is still terrorizing the RTA meta with units like Peira and Ran… so needless to say, you should get used to seeing Iseria around.
8. Yuna
Class: Ranger Element: Ice Rarity: 5* Yuna is a unit that has (sadly) faded into absolute obscurity. Despite having a pivotal role in the first few storylines of Epic Seven, she has seemingly disappeared from both the narrative and the overall meta (if she could ever have been considered viable in the first place). However, Yuna did leave a lasting impression on fans with her quirky personality and… artistic skill three animation… But the developers clearly have a soft spot for Yuna, since the engine that Epic Seven is built on is referred to as the Yuna Engine.
7. Mercedes / Celestial Mercedes / Archdemon’s Shadow
Mercedes Class: Mage Element: Fire Rarity: 4* Celestial Mercedes Class: Mage Element: Dark Rarity: 4* Archdemon’s Shadow Class: Mage Element: Dark Rarity: 5* Mercedes is the character we all receive for free at the start of our journey – and the person who joins Ras on all his adventures. Naturally, we’ve all grown attached to Mercedes over the years. And we can agree that the game wouldn’t the same without her. Mercedes’ new update makes her a viable threat in PVP though, mostly thanks to her revive where her ML 4* form has seen tentative use as a cleaver, and her ML 5* counterpart is still in the meta today. So bottom line: Mercedes is a great waifu. And we offer our humblest condolences to all those who failed to acquire her Fluffy Lady Arky skin.
6. Judge Kise
Class: Warrior Element: Light Rarity: 5* The original waifu to end all waifus, here comes Judge Kise. For those unaware, Epic Seven had a lot more fanservice during its infancy. Characters like Maya, Serila, and Silk have busts that surpassed the size of their heads on full display! Over time, Epic Seven devs realized that the game doesn’t need to rely on that kinda stuff to make a profit – and now the game has become a lot more respectable because of this. That being said, Judge Kise will forever be a remnant of the past, in that her jiggle physics are unrivaled among E7 units.
5. Yufine / Holiday Yufine
Yufine Class: Warrior Element: Earth Rarity: 5* Holiday Yufine Class: Warrior Element: Fire Rarity: 5* Yufine is one of the biggest fan-favorite characters out there. Starting at the initial release of Epic Seven, before many people knew who would be a top-tier unit, several people decided to reroll for Yufine just because of her design. She’s so popular that she also managed to snag herself an illustrious Summer version that sees her take to the battlefield in a tasteful bikini. Unfortunately, Holiday Yufine was almost entirely developed to be a Basar counter. And now that Basar is rarely used, Holiday Yufine has been sent to the waiting room as well…
4. Tenebria / Fairytail Tenebria / Specter Tenebria
Tenebria Class: Mage Element: Fire Rarity: 5* Fairytail Tenebria Class: Mage Element: Ice Rarity: 5* Specter Tenebria Class: Mage Element: Dark Rarity: 5* We’re going to be grouping all incarnations of Tenebria here, since they all bring something a little different to the table. Regular Tenebria has always been a solid waifu. Her Phantom Schoolgirl skin elevated her original design to make the character seem a lot cuter which is always appreciated. Fairytail Tenebria also has a wonderful design & is still used occasionally in RTA. Then things start to get crazy when we look toward Specter Tenebria. Specter Tenebria has always been a top-quality waifu whose meta dominance still persists to this day. She’s great in PVP and even in PVE situations, such as Automaton Tower, Raid, and especially Abyss. Plus she was the first unit to receive a coveted RTA skin – which showed us just how much a character’s design could change. If you enjoy dominant waifus who ask you to kiss their feet, Specter Tenebria is the gal to swoon over.
3. Challenger Dominiel
Class: Mage Element: Dark Rarity: 4* The poster girl of Epic Seven had to make the list somewhere, right? After all, CDom’s face is the first thing you see as you boot up Epic Seven. CDom used to be the go-to pick for cleave teams, since she can boost up the team’s combat readiness and nuke any one unit she chooses. While she has fallen off recently due to the number of interrupts in today’s meta (Politis/Celine/etc), she’ll forever be the unit designed to entice new players to pick up the game. I think Angelica is bit mad that her spot as the app icon has been replaced.
2. Luna
Class: Warrior Element: Ice Rarity: 5* Luna was the first “must-summon” unit in Epic Seven. For a time, there were rumors that we would be forced to wait for an entire year before receiving a Luna banner on the global server. The KR server had already gotten Luna, and there was an uproar that Luna had still yet to find her way to global. Wyvern was at the top of everyone’s to-do list at the time. And Luna was the final piece of the puzzle for creating a stable Wyvern 11 team. Then, as if sent from the heavens, we received the patch notes detailing that Luna was coming. It’s very easy to see why Luna has gripped the hearts of the E7 player base. Her… personality really connected with those who play the game. And while her kit is less useful now than it once was, her exclusive equipment has made her a semi-viable DPS option. Plus with the leaks & animated trailer for Vivian’s skin, ML Luna looks to be far closer than many of us thought she would be. Hopefully you have enough Mystic Medals saved!
1. Bellona / Seaside Bellona
Bellona Class: Ranger Element: Earth Rarity: 5* Seaside Bellona Class: Ranger Element: Ice Rarity: 5* Bellona is widely considered to be the pinnacle of Epic Seven character design. The smug aura she radiates while calmly fanning herself is what first inspired many people to pull for her during her initial release. At the time, Bellona was a top-tier DPS who could rip through the main storyline and early Abyss stages with her percentage health damage. As Bellona fell out of the meta, her seaside counterpart made her debut – and then wreaked havoc on the world of PVP for what seemed like an eternity. So many counters were released to combat SSB’s dominance (Roana, for example). And while she’s seldom seen nowadays in RTA, she’s still great for Hunts and Automaton Tower. Additionally, we can’t forget our fallen brother KGaming, who before Epic Seven had any kind of pity system, spent hundreds of dollars trying to summon her. Bellona is a top-tier waifu. She may not be as viable as she once was. But she has stood at the top of the meta at some point in time in both of her incarnations. So only one question still remains… ML BELLONA WHEN?!
Honorable Mentions (NPCs)
Epic Seven has such amazing character designs. Unfortunately, some of the best designs are absolutely wasted on NPCs that will never be made into real characters. If you’ve played through the main story of Epic Seven, you’ll surely have come across a small subset of characters that have animated sprites, but are yet to become playable. Even those in the lobby who perform tasks like healing your units are animated – yet they can’t be summoned! In all likelihood, these characters will never see an official gacha release. So this spot is reserved as an honorable mention for all the NPC waifus who we’ll never get to truly learn about. Still, it’s better to have looked and loved than to never have looked at all…
