And of course the crazy is in anime. Sometimes considerably horrid or sometimes just obsessively loving. They range from deranged to just a bit temperamental. But we don’t need those. We’re here for only the most batshit insane yanderes and yangires in all of anime! Here’s an impeccable collection of the craziest anime girls you’ll ever lay your eyes on! PS. I don’t condone any of this, please don’t repeat the Yuka Takaoka incident, yanderes IRL are not cool or quirky.
20. Yuno Gasai
Anime: Future Diary I hate Gasai. I hate Mirai Nikki as a whole (sorry just personal preference), and Gasai sure doesn’t make the show better! She’s universally loved, though, so I had to include her here. Yuno is a yandere, a being that loves someone so much she became obsessive to such a degree that she’d kill anyone who tries to approach Yuuki-Kun. I may hate her, but she’s a great insane character. She’s crazed from emotional and physical abuse by her parents. And she was only shown kindness by Yuuki-Kun, which made her grow a bit… too attached.
19. Yumeko Jabami
Anime: Kakegurui Kakegurui is an interesting anime about gambling with an… uh, weird outlook on gambling. The stakes are high, but never for Yumeko, she’s filthy rich! The great gambler who doesn’t see a difference in losing 300 thousand yen and losing 300 billion yen, that’s how rich she is! She could probably be richer than anyone living on Earth right now, Bezos included. Yumeko is quite insane too, being literally aroused by gambling, betting human life against some money, etc. She gets more excited with higher bets and can become immersed into a game to the point of not even noticing any of her surroundings.
18. Shion Sonozaki
Anime: Higurashi: When They Cry A wild antagonist appears! Shion (not to be confused with a certain Oni) is the older of the Sonozaki sisters. Which is quite confusing – she acts like Mion, while Mion acts like her. She’s famous for her meltdown, and the bloodfest that followed. Now she is very shrewd and manipulative, totally a real delinquent. She hated her institution deeply. I think that it’s the reason why she’s such a psycho.
17. Akane Hiyama
Anime: Love Tyrant Not… Quite a yandere, yet she’s a psychopath caused by her deep love for Seiji. Well, I guess she is a yandere… but she’ll only attack you if you try to date Seiji. She’ll only kill you for hurting Seiji! Akane is also ready to stab… herself for Seiji. And, uhh, Seiji himself? She’s an ex-angel! Like come on, this is an angel? She even stabbed Guri! The spawn of God and the Devil (kind of)! What a stab-happy little lady. She’s indifferent to all the people who aren’t Seiji, or someone she stabs. For example: Yuzu, who’s in love with this psycho. And “this psycho” doesn’t give her the time of day. Yuzu does fall for Seiji in the end, because of course she does.
16. Yuki Takeya
Anime: School-Live! Yuki isn’t dangerously insane, she’s just delusional. Ironically, when the outbreak began she was one of the first people to realize it. And it terrified her, broke her, and scarred her. She started building up a barrier of innocent club happiness as a way to deal with the grief and horror of the situation. In her personal fantasy, we see her wish for her classmates to still be alive and the outbreak to have never happened. Time stopped. People around her noticed her sudden cheeriness, but decided to let her keep her delusions. It would be cruel to rid her of her delusions, after all, since sometimes a sweet lie is better than the bitter truth.
15. Shōko Kirishima
Anime: Baka to Test Another yandere! A popular archetype in anime, it seems. Shouko will gouge out the eyes of anyone who would dare approach her Yuuji – ironically, this level of over-protectiveness scares him away from ever reciprocating her feelings. Shouko can’t use any electronics, except tasers. And as Michael Reeves once said “strapping a taser to something does not make it better, unless I do it”. Really a yandere is crazy enough. A yandere with a taser is just plain scary.
14. Hange Zoe
Anime: Attack on Titan Zoe is crazy obsessed with titans. She would torture someone to find a bit of info. She likes experimenting on live titans, whom she keeps imprisoned and bound with chains… crazy enough for you? Zoe is a helpful type of psycho, though. Like a mad scientist, she contributes greatly to society with her research. No great invention ever came about without any sacrifice, right?
13. Rebecca Lee
Anime: Black lagoon A nihilistic and unforgiving short-tempered Chinese-American is such a scary being, if I were in this anime I’d run. She’s ruthless, not batting an eye at shooting up random innocent civilians. She’s undiplomatic, only ever using power and force, coercing people to do her bidding. I’ll shorten this bit: just like Revy would shorten me. Really, she’s a drunkard and a smoker too. And she swears like an Aussie!
12. Misaki Nakahara
Anime: Welcome to the N.H.K! Misaki is insane, no doubt. But she’s wildly less insane in the anime. In the manga she’s openly evil and sadistic, taking joy in hurting people and manipulating them. She’s on this list because of how real her mental disorder is displayed in the anime. I definitely recommend giving it a watch if you’ve never seen it before.
11. Ophelia
Anime: Claymore Ophelia is a horrible person. She’s power-crazy, she loves hurting her subordinates, she loves murder, she purposefully turned people into monsters to justify killing them…. Actually, she doesn’t need a justification. She kills everyone who she finds weaker than her, taking joy in torturing the weak. I guess she’s moreso heartless and pure evil. But don’t let her turn you away, because the show is great!
10. Kaede Kayano
Anime: Assassination Classroom Well, Kaede was hiding her true nature. So you might not know how crazy she was. After the tentacle incident, she gave up on her murderous revenge. She was hellbent on killing Koro-Sensei, who really was a great teacher. And while it seems like a normal goal, same as everyone else, she tries even after everyone stopped trying to. But she fixed her life! So yay for the one person on this list who managed to become less insane.
9. Saya Kisaragi
Anime: Blood-C Ah, the duality of man. This girl has a split personality, one fake, and one real. She’s a blood-sucker to. An uncaring being who wishes to suck humans dry of all their blood. That’s gotta be somewhere on the crazy scale right? And she has a hatred for all humans, Nanahara in particular.
8. Motoko Minagawa
Anime: Fruits Basket I’ll keep this short, sweet and simple. Motoko is sadly only a minor character. Yet she’s a stalker, so she totally fits here (also I wanted to plug fruits basket, great anime). She’s an arrogant prick, too. And about the stalker part: she raided a house with multiple people because she wanted to blackmail Tohru. Her most important role was in “Fruits Basket Another”. And it was just being the mother of Ruriko Kageyama. So, not as crazy I guess… but still definitely crazy.
7. Himiko Toga
Anime: My Hero Academia Himiko is a yangire, a crazy person who’s like a yandere, except without a love attachment. She does love Midoriya, but that doesn’t count. A yandere has to kill or injure people for getting close to their love, yet Toga only cares to injure Deku. She’s a shapeshifter who can transform into anyone whose blood she’s drank before. Kinda vampire-y but it works. And she likes the taste of blood, the expression her victims make, and the sound of their screams. Toga is also a very popular character to cosplay! But if you cosplay Toga, please don’t drink stranger’s blood.
6. Hibana Daida
Anime: Deadman’s Wonderland She’s 7, come on! How could she be insane? Well, kids can be crazy too! With this vivid example we have a maniac that disregards life completely, and (maybe) even tortures people for fun. Well, not fun exactly, but still. In kindergarten, some kids flipped her skirt, no big deal right? Nope. Hibana decided that based on her mother’s abuse, it would be appropriate to individually torture and kill her whole class! Talk about overkill. Even past all that, she’s so twisted in the mind that nothing would help her anyway. She truly believes she’s a “good girl” for doing well in school, and even considers herself a proper lady.
5. Lust
Anime: Fullmetal Alchemist A lady, a woman of high culture, a murderer, whatever you call Envy she’s always gonna be a sick, crazy homunculus. She’s a pair with Gluttony, one who devours everything, commanding him to do her bidding. She utilizes her womanly charms to trick and control weak-willed people, forcing them to follow her every command. Lust has extendable claws that work as a weapon. They’ve served her well in every aspect of her career – from murder to murder. Also fun fact: the line “it seems like you should buy a girl dinner first; before you stick your hand in her chest.” seems to be a reference to the anime InuYasha, released 9 years prior (I mean the hair demon).
4. Shiro
Anime: Deadman Wonderland Shiro. The wretched egg, the first deadman, whatever. Her past is twisted and dark: she was adopted only as a lab rat, as Sorae didn’t want to use her son for experiments. Shiro herself is pretty sweet. But she has bipolar disorder, not in a real-life way, but in the media split-personality way. She was rotting while the experimentation was going on. And once her arm even fell off! Her life is tragic, her story – horrid. And it doesn’t surprise me how wretched her alternate form became, living in this environment.
3. Nina Einstein
Anime: Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion Obsessed with Euphie and scared of the elevens, Nina is a prime example of why the quietest people can be so scary. She lived in fear and without resentment until she met Euphemia li Britannia, the princess closest to Lelouch after Nunnaly. She sees her as a goddess. A divine being who saved her. When Lelouch killed Euphemia li Britannia, she became highly mentally unstable… driven to kill Lelouch and Elevens. Seems insane enough to rank pretty high on this list.
2. Lucy
Anime: Elfen Lied Another two-faced crazy lady, here we have Lucy. The cold-blooded murderer of a lot of people, good or bad. She’s called the Queen of Diclonius and for good reason! Her real name is Kaede, the first of this sub-human species. She’s in love with Kouta and is torn apart from all the crimes she’s committed. I really recommend Elfen Lied if you’ve never watched it, too. It’s a great story with great perspective and characters, not dated at all if you can enjoy the art style. The OP is a banger too!
1. Junko Enoshima
Anime: Danganronpa The queen of the crazies, this highly prestigious title I bestow upon the universally love Junko. She’s very apathetic, easily bored, and erratic. Her favorite emotion is despair. She yearns for it, desires it, wishes for others to indulge in it as well. She also likes fashion. A totally a normal hobby, surprising. But I guess that just means she changes her wardrobe about as often as her face!
